The 'Ceasefire' Rally That Was Anything But A Ceasefire Rally

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Saturday in our nation’s capital saw what is being advertised as the largest pro-Palestinian rally to take place within the United States since Hamas’ terrorist attacks on October 7, with organizers saying attendance reached over 300,000. While hard to say if that figure is accurate, being at the large crowd, it certainly was the biggest rally I have covered since the start of the protests.

The rally and march were calling for a ceasefire in the ongoing war in Israel and Gaza, but people in attendance and speakers clearly only had the destruction of Israel in mind. Perhaps the biggest example was when one speaker on the main stage, Marte White, flamboyantly said people should not think of decolonization “conceptually” or “metaphorically” because “this shit is real,” adding those in Gaza have the right to rebel “from the river to the sea by any means necessary. And I DO MEAN any means necessary!”

Speaking with protesters and listening to chants by the crowd, it was clear they did not want a ceasefire for both parties, they only wanted Israel to stop their offensive. This is despite the fact leaders of Hamas have promised to carry out attacks like the ones on October 7 again and again until Israel is no more.
