ASHKELON, Israel — If there is one thing I have learned being on the ground in Israel during its war with Hamas, it is that the fog of war is very much a frustrating aspect of being able to report on the unfolding situation. Reports and supposed videos of incidents circulate on social media while news agencies report claims from…interesting sources.
This was made abundantly clear after the explosion of the parking lot at al-Ahli Arab Hospital in the Gaza Strip. I already went over how it was not an Israeli air strike and there was no way 500 people were killed. Yet, the mainstream media circulated the claims by the Gaza Health Ministry, aka Hamas, for hours. They have since edited headlines and stories but the damage was done. I should note I was among the first on the ground to say the leading theory of a misfired Gazan rocket was very possible based on what I saw and experienced on the night in question.
Once the media was caught with its pants down, yet again, they shifted blame to the “fog of war.”
