Whenever most of the members of the House of Representatives are in the chamber during important moments, there are sure to be shenanigans from members who know they will get extra camera time with all the attention.
During today’s voting for Speaker of the House, of which Mike Johnson (R-La.) won, after the initial first round, Delegate Stacey Plaskett (D) asked for a parliamentary inquiry: She wanted to know why U.S. delegates and resident commissioner (from Puerto Rico) were not called on to vote in the Speaker race.
After she was reminded that only full House members are allowed to vote, Plaskett continued her grandstanding.
“This body and this nation has a territories and a colonies problem. What was supposed to be temporary has now effectively become permanent. We must do something about this problem,” Plaskett said as Democrats gave her a standing ovation and then her microphone was cut since she was no longer recognized.
Plaskett’s microphone was then briefly turned back on as she shouted, “I have a voice…” before the microphone was cut again.
Of course, Plaskett was well aware of the House rules and was just using the moment to bring attention to her personal cause.
The delegates from Washington, D.C. and the U.S Virgin Islands are represented by Democrats while Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands are represented by Republicans.
WATCH:
Democrats continue to besmirch themselves. They show no regard for the rules that have been put in place to preserve Constitutional order. This simply has to stop.
January 6 was a very bad day, but hearing the Dems pearl-clutch over the Rs trying to flip the table after losing, as if the Ds don't do that every time, was a bit much.
